Olivia Mc Caffrey, SNA attended this workshop with Dyspraxia Ireland and came back full of ideas for making our PE lessons more inclusive.
All our classes have been doing Gymnastics in February and early March. Ms. Burns and Ms. Mc Guigan attending a Gymnastics Workshop, delivered by the PDST in Farnham National School.
Ms. Burns and Ms. Connolly attended the first phase of the PDST's physically literatacy programme. It has been designed to complement the teaching of the Irish Primary School Physical Education (PE) Curriculum and aims to provide a range of tools to support the teacher in teaching fundamental movement skills (FMS) throughout the primary school. These experiences should lead to a physically literate pupil, who has the movement competence, confidence, and understanding to continue participation in physical activity throughout their lives. (Whitehead, 2016) This skill development is integrated into the PE lesson. In this way, the teacher focuses a lens on skill development within a lesson that is based on one of the strands of the PE curriculum. All the staff really enjoyed the Games for All workshop with Cavan Sports Partnership. We learned lots of new games and are looking forward to using our lovely new equipment.
