The children from 1st to 6th class are really enjoying their swimming lessons.
We were delighted to have Cathy from the Tug of War Association in to teach us about how it's done. Tug of war is a fun and exciting sport that everyone can get involved in. We learned lots and Cathy gave us our own rope for the school along with some information for the teachers to help us improve our skills. 3rd and 4th class will be participating in a competition in December so watch this space for more news about how we got on. Our senior pupils are now helping out in the Junior Yard as play leaders. We have groups who play games and have a list of suggested activities. We also have a group who do dancing on a Thursday. So far it's working really well. The sun was shining so we were able to move our Hallowe'en Disco into the great outdoors. The scary costumes and the bright Autumn sun combined to give a spooky feel to our photos.
We were proud to make it to the semi final, we put up a good fight and wish Crosserlough the very best in the final.
Here are some photos from our recent football blitz. As you can see we brought along some support and Lisbo Duffy was also there to cheer us on.
We didn't get through to the final but enjoyed our day, getting active and practicing our skills. Since we've all been getting busy improving our skipping skills we decided to complete the Climb the Heights Skipping Challenge for European Week of Sport.
We took a break from our desks for 15 minutes every day and all went to the yard to skip... even the teachers got involved! We used lollisticks to keep track of our skipping. We gave our Active Schools initiative a kick start with a visit from Mark from SkipnRope. Skipping is fantastic exercise as well as being lots of fun and is something that everyone can participate in. Mark gave us lots of tips on good skipping techniques and taught us lots of tricks and new types of skipping. The morning finished with a show where we got a chance to demonstrate what we had learned. We bought new skipping ropes for the school and we are all planning to work on improving our skills... even the teachers have promised to join in!!! |
Our Active schools committee will be posting here regularly to help keep you up to date on all our active school events and activities.
